I’m a passionate photographer with a love for the simple things in life; family, cooking and coffee.

I find joy in capturing life’s precious, intimate and exciting moments.

Meet Sophie B

Photography has always held a very special place in my heart.

I was gifted my very first Kodak Disc camera at the age of 12 and I quickly developed a lasting passion for photography. Growing up in the Sutherland Shire, I photographed anything and everything on that little film camera.

After completing a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing), I spent several years earning my stripes as a marketer for global brands: Audi, Pirelli, Toyota and Lexus.

I was gifted with my first DSLR in 2008 and soon after became an active member of the Shire Amateur Photographers’ Society. The following year I registered Sophie B Photography as a business.

To adapt my approach to the 2020 restrictions of Covid-19, I launched ‘Sutherland Shire Open 4 Business.’ What started as my personal photography project rapidly evolved into an essential part of Sophie B Photography. I have now photographed over 250 local businesses and look forward to the opportunity to photograph many more into the future.

In 2019, 2020 and 2023, I was awarded as a ‘winner’ in the photography category at the Sutherland Shire Local Business Awards, an achievement I will always be incredibly proud of.

Sophie B Photography continues to grow, adapt and thrive. I now shoot with a full Canon R5 mirrorless kit of cameras, pro-lenses and accessories, however, I still cherish the film negatives I kept from when I was just a child as a humbling reminder of where it all began.

Q&A with Sophie B

How do you spend your time away from work?

My spare time is based on spending time with family and friends. My European background has provided the foundation for cooking, eating, drinking coffee and enjoying the simple things in life. I also enjoy walking and I particularly love hiking in the Royal National Park. I was fortunate to be able to complete the Overland Track in Tasmania a couple of years ago.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I’m glad you asked! I love playing Italian Cards and I enjoy winning! My other ‘secrets’ include the love for the Piano Accordion and I also speak French and Italian.

What is your biggest weakness?

Bread and butter, and chocolate, of course!

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Night owl. I love working late editing photos and working on my family tree. I’ve been able to go as far back as the 1700’s.

What does your perfect day look like?

A chill out day with my family on a Sunday is my perfect kind of day! We love having toasted tuna sandwiches for lunch, drinking coffee, playing a game of Monopoly, cooking a roast and hanging-out on the lounge together watching movies.

How do you remain environmentally conscious?

I recycle everything that I can, from printer cartridges, paper, boxes, soft plastics and hard plastics. I am working towards being paperless in my office, with all of my systems being automated with computer software.

What could you never get bored of?

I love to travel around Australia and overseas! I’ve been to Europe many times, and I love being in outback Australia camping under a big red gum tree. I simply enjoy being with family and friends, eating food cooked in the camp oven, drinking a glass of red around a campfire with my husband or being on a hike in the wilderness.

Tea or coffee?

I usually start and end my day with a Dilmah tea with a splash of milk, but, overall I would say, coffee is my thing. Growing up in a French/Italian family, I was able to appreciate at a young age the delicious aroma of freshly ground coffee being made in the cafetiera. As an adult, I still make my coffee using the classic cafetiera with Vittoria coffee and love all blends.

Don’t forget affogato! That’s my favourite dessert after a good meal – vanilla ice-cream topped with espresso.
